Dear Anita, Ralph, Cecelia & Family -- We are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Mike was a constant and positive presence throughout my childhood, as Joann was my mom's first cousin and she and Mike were my godparents. They and my parents were close friends. What I remember most was his wonderful, infectious laugh and the antics the four of them got into. I was lucky to run into him a few years ago when I was visiting Pittsburgh. Please know that we are holding you in our hearts during this very difficult time. Fondly, Lora Hillgartner Wong and on behalf of Don & Elaine Hillgartner

I was so blessed to be treated as family upon meeting my best friend from college and lifelong sister Cecilia. Mike immediately treated me as a part of his close Italian family including his sister Annie and parents. During an Ohio visit where he and Cecelia picked me up, he expressed to us that he knew how much I truly loved his daughter. His vocal sentiments meant the world; as he felt immense love; with few words. Mike was a fiercely loyal loving father to Cecelia and Ralph; making them priorities in his life which included consistent dinner with the kids; his first priority prior to having coffee with his parents; who I adored. Cecelia put her Dad on the phone with me recently, which seemed just like yesterday as he would visit Cecelia at Ohio State, spent quality time with us and even a visit to my parents. I am so proud of how he expressed his love and loyalty to his children; his life. He was a man of few words yet immense expression by just being present with Ralph and Cecelia. Cecelia always told me how her parents were best friends; loved being together and talked constantly forever over coffee and cigarettes. I know he is having his coffee and cigarettes with Joanne. Mike was additionally blessed with his wife Anita, who made him very happy and cared for him so well; always. Cecilia's appreciation for Anita is well known; yet have not yet had the pleasure of meeting. Poppy made a tick tick with his granddaughters Giovanna Gabriella and his beautiful wife and friend, Anita. I will dearly miss Poppy and am praying for his entire family, with whom he will remain in their heart forever. May God bless Anita Cecelia Ralph and their families while they mourn his physical departure. Mike's love will continue in their hearts and bless them all with his angelic protection for life. May you rest in peace Poppy. I love you so much, Daughter #2, love, Nilda
