Obituary For Mildred D. Kosmach

Of Castle Shannon, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Predeceased by beloved husband, Andrew, parents Mary and Peter Goritz and siblings Marie Kubiak, Helen Eiben, and Charles, Clarence Joseph, Mercedes and Edward Goritz. Survived by loving children, Suzanne, BK, Andy (Trish), Lin (Mike) Hirsh, Lori (Tom) Merikas, and Eric (Bev), grandchildren Megan (Paul) Holencik, Matthew (Kelly) Merikas, Aaron, Joshua, Isaac Kosmach, and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was devoted to her husband, children, and religion. She made sacrifices so that her children could attend twelve years of Catholic education. She made a commitment to be home with her children in their younger years, supporting them in various projects, activities, fundraisers, and homework assignments. She was a good cook and was especially thoughtful by making a favorite meal on everyone’s birthdays, adding a homemade birthday cake complete with the birthday girl/boy’s favorite batter and icing color. She was known for her secret recipe Christmas fruitcakes, and teaming up with her husband to make nut rolls every holiday season. She was a hard worker, both within the home and outside with her jobs at Norcross/Hallmark cards. She was good with numbers, maintaining the household checking account and easily adding up a column of numbers with just pencil and paper. She was a member of St Anne Church since 1952, attended weekly mass and the annual novena to St Anne. Grandma was generous with her time and attention, even in later years, by helping her grandchildren at their school carnivals, and attending their various events.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday, October 29, 2026 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral prayer on Friday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul of the Cross Parish, St. Anne Church at 10:00 a.m. Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com
