Obituary For Myra Mazick Tolino

On August 14, 2022, Myra Mazick Tolino died unexpectedly in Pittsburgh, PA at 75 years of age. Myra is survived by her husband, Vince; children, Cara (Jay Collins) Tolino, and Candace (Adam) Rothberg; brother-in-law, Carl David Tolino (Tina Reft) and grandchildren, Tannyn and Parker Tolino Anderson and Aiden and Asher Rothberg. She was preceded in death by her parents Matt and Emma Mazick; brother, Jim, sister-in-law, Carol Mazick; and mother and father-in-law, Carl and Joanne Tolino. She will be missed by loving nieces, nephews and close life-long friends. Myra was born in Brownsville, PA and raised in California, PA where she graduated from high school and college. She went on to receive several graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and worked for 40 years in the Pittsburgh Public Schools as a dedicated and beloved teacher, focusing on pre-school children. As a friend to many and a very close friend to a special group of women from all aspects of her life, Myra found friendship to be of the highest value. Her close circle of friends provided grounding and sustenance to enrich her life, and she, in turn, enriched theirs. Although her children and grandchildren lived distances from her home, she maintained close connections to support and show love to their families. In addition to friendship, family was central to her being. Her life was full; her love enveloping those closest to her. Myra gave love and got love. She will be missed. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 2- 8 p.m. where a funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kaye Cupples Scholarship Fund, c/o Achieva, 711 Bingham Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203 www.achieva.info/give. Myra was the first teacher I worked with as a paraeducator. I just learned of her passing. She made me a better para, parent, and person. I will never forget her. She was filled with light and shared it with everyone around her. This is quite a loss and my sincerest condolences to her family.

Dear sister-in-law: I've loved you as my sister for many years and admired and followed your suggestions for positive parenting for my dear sweet children. "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my sister-in-law I'll be" Jo

I am brokenhearted and praying for you all and sending lots of light and thoughts. I have beautiful memories of Myra - one time (about 45 years ago) she patiently let me braid her hair for hours on end and we laughed as she encouraged my braiding skills with enthusiasm. Then, to my amazement, she wore the braids in public! It was a wonderful afternoon and a treasured memory. So so so much love to you all. Vanessa
