Obituary For Oscar Gustavo Arredondo Basso

Age 91, passed peacefully surrounded by family on December 6, 2024 of Brentwood, formerly of Lima, Peru.

Loving husband of Martha Urrutia of almost 66 years; supportive and caring father of Marci (Michael) McCarthy, Erika (Joseph Vilchek) Arredondo, Oscar Manuel (Angelica) Arredondo, and Federico (Claudia) Arredondo; grandfather "Daddy" to Robert "Chiqui Robert" (Jenny), Cristina Maria (Benjamin), Michelle "Michi" (Brandon), Nicolle "Choli Pelada" (Tyler), Rafael, Bianca "Tuka", Camila "Cami Cami", and Mia; great-grandfather of Kade and Callan McCarthy; son of the late Enrique Federico Arredondo Malcolm "Papi" and Clara Basso de Arredondo "Mami"; brother of the late Guillermo "Willy", Adriana, Eduardo "Lalo", Anita "Bebe", and Alfredo "Koko". Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Daddy, as he was known by all who loved him, was born in Lima, Peru. We all heard stories about his childhood homes and we also visited often, his mother (our grandmother), “la Mami” in his Barcelona Street home. He attended the Colegio San Agustin and later Military School at Leoncio Prado. He graduated from LSU, which he remained an assiduous fan throughout his entire life. In 1959, he married Martha, his life-long sweetheart. Together, they had four children while working for Marcona Mining Company first and later Occidental Petroleum Company in Lima, Peru.

Daddy and Mamma immigrated to the U.S. in 1989, and in the course of their lives in America they continued supporting their 4 children which had 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Daddy was very proud of his penmanship and loved to sing out loud, particularly to Peruvian valses criollos. Daddy had a unique sense of humor, which he always shared kindly. He had a way to spark a personal connection with each of us, whether it was a rivalry in sports like LSU & OleMiss, or Baskin & Robbins. Daddy knew what things in life mattered.

There are so many special things about Daddy. If there is one thing that we all know which was extraordinary about him it was that you always knew how he felt about us: “A wholeheartedly and unconditionally I LOVE YOU”.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, PA 15227, Tuesday December 10 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Where a blessing service will be held on Tuesday at 7:30. Please send condolences to www.johnfslater.com
