Obituary For Pamela Meiser Johns

Age 85, of Baldwin Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side.

Pamela was the only child of the late Joseph and Emma (Pifer) Meiser. She lived the life of a princess. She was bright, funny, cute and busy. She graduated 3rd from the South Hills High School class of 1958. She went on to receive her B.S. in Education from Duquesne University. She LOVED being a teacher, and taught many lessons in and out of the classroom. Retiring with teaching awards from Mt. Lebanon High School Physics department.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Joseph Paul Johns. They were married on June 29, 1963. Together they raised a family, son Joseph (Frances), daughters Samantha (Chris) Weakland and Jennifer (David Gutterman) Johns and of course her dog Charli. She cherished a sister/brother relationship with her first cousin Chuck Twardy (Gail Munde)

What she loved more than being a teacher was being Nana. She was so very proud of and talked endlessly about; Joshua (Olivia) Weakland, Emma (George) Pippin, John (Abbey) Weakland, Mark (Kendra) Weakland, Veronica Johns, Cassandra Gutterman-Johns, Miranda Johns, Everett Gutterman-Johns, and Aurora Gutterman-Johns. And being Nana to her great grandchildren George Pippin IV, Brooks Pippin, Ava Weakland, Sebastian Weakland and Rowan Weakland.

Pam lived a wonderful life. She and Joe traveled the world together, visiting all 50 States, as well as six continents. She has the photos to prove it.

She enjoyed photography, playing cards, and socializing with her family and friends, and she had many. She was the ‘Party Queen’, hosting extravagant parties for her friends, and made every birthday and holiday special for her children, long into adulthood. She attended countless dance recitals, sporting events, performances, graduations, rarely missing a reason to celebrate.

She was industrious and seized every opportunity to be involved in a meaningful way, socially and civically, founding the Baldwin Township Branch of the Carnegie Library. Make no mistake, Pam liked to be in charge and bred an obsessive compulsive disorder that her children carry to this day. (not our fault)

To say Pam will be missed by her family and friends is an understatement. Including the warm and caring friendships she made with the residents and staff of South Hill Square.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 2-6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. All are welcome to join the family at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies immediately following the funeral mass for a brief service.

In lieu of flowers, if you are so inclined, the family suggests you make a donation to a charity that is meaningful to you in Pam’s memory.

Seeing Pam's picture today brought back good memories of our teenage church social club. With Sheila, Rick, Phil, Judy Lodge, Johnny LaRosa (just to name a few) we did a little praying. a little singing, a lot of laughing and built some life long friendships along the way. So glad she had a happy life. Joanne (Kissel) McLaughlin

I grew up with Pam and Joe and their kids being just like extended family. Their parties were epic! So much fun.... In recent years Pam's donations to my non-profit were so appreciated! I love you, Pam. See you on the other side.

What a special, unique woman she was and what a blessing it was for our family to share so many memories and events with Pam and Joe, Joe, Jr., Sam and Jen. From special lunches at the beginning of each school year to brownie camps at the park, working at the library Pam started, little league ball games, tennis matches, grass cutting jobs, college years, marriages, growing up, growing old, staying connected and realizing what a special neighborhood and neighbors we had. Our sincere sympathy and appreciation for being able to share our lives with Pam, Joe and their wonderful family. - The Hamels

We are so sorry to hear this news. I am glad Mr. and Mrs. Johns got to visit us in CT a few years ago. I have very fond memories of having fun over at their house with their kids in the 70s -- especially the legendary Superbowl parties -- as my parents were their friends. I am grateful Mr. Johns was also my Confirmation sponsor. They will be missed. - Bob Stock

Pam and Joe Johns and their kids are all part of my favorite life memories. They would visit our family in Decatur IL or we would visit them in Pittsburgh. These get togethers were like Christmas to me - so much laughter and fun. Pam and Joe and their kids were all such a joy to be around. The world seems an emptier place without Pam and Joe but the great memories they inspired will live with me forever. God bless you Johns family. It's been an honor to be a part of your lives. - Rhett Beede
