Words can't even describe how heartbroken I am for you Howard and the boys! You and Pat have been in my family's life forever Uncle Alan found a true best friend in both of you and I can't thank you enough for always being so kind to our family! Pat will truly be missed. She was a wonderful and kind soul, something that is so rare in this world anymore! She is definitely amongst angels! And I definitely know that she was the perfect example of what a nurse should be and I only hope that I could be as good of a nurse as she was!

Our hearts are broken. Pat created a light in our lives that will be sorely missed. She worked hard, played hard, and excelled at both. We have so many wonderful memories of all the times we laughed together. We will cling to those memories through the deep and terrible sadness of her passing.

It was my pleasure to have worked as Pat's colleague during some of her WPIC years. Always dedicated to children and families, her ever present humor made work' fun and her top-notch skills made her a wonderful role model for others to emulate. I always looked forward to hearing her stories of weekend trips up the country and the fun she had with her young family when her boys were little. May the wonderful memories you have help carry you through this very difficult time. My sympathy to the family.

Pat was one of a kind! Working together on the Merck unit in the 80's were some of the best days! We worked hard, we played hard and we always laughed...mostly at ourselves! I will miss you my friend.

Dear Howard, My sister Paula gave me the news about Duffy. I'm actually dizzy typing this. It seems surreal. It's so easy to jump back in your past memories and wonder where, and why such huge gaps. All the same the gaps are there. The memories are there also. You will see her again. Please tell Sean and Colin they will see her again. In truth our loved ones never leave us. We just are not aware of their presence. I am certain about this. God is love and love never dies. You probably don't know but my brother Patrick died over twenty yrs ago. Knowing this helps me a lot. I hope it helps you and your sons. All of you are in my prayers. Please keep me in yours. Was so sad to hear of Pat's passing. A dear friend and colleague from the early days at WPIC. It was such a joy to know and work with Pat at the John Merck Program. She was an extremely skilled and dedicated Nurse who always put her patients first. Her attitude, leadership and work ethic made challenging days more tolerable. I will always remember Pat for one of her favorite sayings to her co-workers once a Merkie, always a Merkie My sympathy to the Michalski family.

Pat was a wonderful coworker. What a shock. She will be missed.

  • February 24, 2020

My deepest sympathies to Howard & sons. My mum was Pat's cousin (Joan Duffner) but I got to know Pat from my daughter, Tarah going to the John Merck Clinic. Pat made a connection with Tarah that only a few are able to do. All though I was never happy to drive to Oakland then later to the South Side I enjoyed seeing Pat monthly for many years. She was a funny, caring & supportive nurse. The children & families were very lucky to have her in their lives. She made an impact.

  • February 24, 2020

I have known Pat for many years, having first met her when she was a student at Pitt coming back for her MSN. She was a lovely person and a wonderful nurse. I just learned of her passing and send my deepest sympathy to her family and friends. The world lost a great person.

  • February 24, 2020

I was deeply saddened to hear of Pat's passing. I met Pat 39 years ago when we were coworkers at WPIC. It was a tough job but we worked with a group of people who worked hard, played hard, provided exemplary care and treatment and had fun! We became friends and I got to know and love her Mom. She was a wonderful person. Kind, loving and funny! We didn't see each other often after our careers took different paths but when we would run into one another it was just like old times. RIP, Pat. Say hello to your Mom for me. My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Howard, the boys and family. Those we hold most dear never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared and the love that they brought into our lives.
