Obituary For Patricia (Patellos) Macey

Age 89, peacefully at home on Saturday, November 1, 2025, of Whitehall, born in Newfield, PA and formerly of Brentwood, Clairton, and Library.

Beloved wife of 62 years to the late John T. Macey; mother of Lisa Macey, Annette (Christopher) Wetmore, and Jennifer Macey (Claudia Jakim); grandmother to Leigh (Justin) Dicks and Diane (Marcus) Arakelian; great-grandmother to Ryan Dicks, Thomas Arakelian, and Madeleine Dicks; sister of Joanne (Richard) Nicotera, the late Richard (Shirley) Patellos, Sr., and the late Mary Louise Hajduk; daughter of the late Joseph and Adella Patellos. Also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Patricia graduated from Snowden High School and excelled as a legal secretary, capping off her career after many years with Reed Smith Shaw & McClay LLP. She was a sacristan as well as a longtime volunteer as a member of the parish council and as a CCD teacher at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church in Carrick. Patricia made deliveries for Brentwood Meals on Wheels, maintained minutes as secretary for the South Hills chapter of the AARP, and guided patrons as an usher at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh. She was an active member of the Lithuanian Citizens Society of Western Pennsylvania, performed with the Lithuanian Neris dance group, took language classes at the Lithuanian Social Hall on the South Side, and served on the Lithuanian Room Committee for the Cathedral of Learning’s Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh. Patricia and Jack were active members of the South Hills Movers and Shakers Parkinson's Disease Support Group.

Never one to let much grass grow beneath her feet, Patricia was in her element as an artist. She was an accomplished seamstress, making matching child and doll dresses, several wedding dresses, and special event clothing for family members. Patricia explored calligraphy, created straw Lithuanian Christmas ornaments, decorated intricate Easter eggs, and dabbled in working with stained glass, glass blowing, and painting. She crocheted and loved to do cross-stitch and embroidery needlework. Everything was always beautifully wrapped with a perfect bow. Patricia played the piano and challenged herself to learn the banjo in middle age.

Patricia and Jack loved to travel with friends and family. They were able to experience the beauty of Hawaii, Alaska and the West in addition to discovering many wonders to be found east of the Mississippi, throughout the Caribbean, and in England. Patricia also was able to travel behind the Iron Curtain with her parents and sister Mary Lou in 1980 to reconnect with family in Lithuania.

She adored her family and friends, devoting her time and attention toward building a home for us all. Patricia had a great sense of humor, was a news junkie, and had a real gift for celebration that touched everyone. She enjoyed gardening, had an encyclopedic memory, and proudly wore her Pittsburgh pride on her sleeve.

Family and friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227 (Brentwood) on Friday, November 7, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday at 9:45 a.m, followed by a mass of Christian Burial, at St. Albert the Great Church (Blessed Trinity Parish), 3198 Schieck Street (Baldwin) at 10:30 a.m. The family respectfully requests, if desired, memorial donations to the Gallagher Foundation https://gallagherhospice.com/support-us/gallagher-foundation, c/o Gallagher Hospice, 1370 Washington Pike, Suite 401B, Bridgeville, PA 15017.

I knew Pat Macey when she was a valuable part of the Labor Group of attorneys at RSSM. She made a point of introducing herself to me because she somehow knew of our shared Lithuanian heritage. Over quite a few years, we would talk when I was in their office; I learned of many - but not all - of her interests and skills. My sympathies to her family.
