Obituary For Raymond Joseph Veri

Veri, Raymond Joseph, age 93, on Wednesday January 13, 2021. "Whitehall Ray", "The Pope", "Clark Kent"

Born and raised in Panther Hollow, currently of Whitehall Boro. Husband of the late Evelyn Diulus Veri; father of Marianne (Jeffrey) Harrison of Peters Twp. and the late Patricia and Christine Veri; grandfather of Mathew (Lori) Harrison of Portersville, PA and Kathryn Patricia, the love of his life, (Peter) Pontacq of Elk Grove, CA; great-grandfather of Daniel George Harrison, Peter Jeffrey, Harrison Raymond and Olivia Naomi Pontacq; son of the late Andrew, Sr. and Anna Delvecchio Veri; brother of the late Elsie, Helen, Norman (Frances) and Andrew, Jr. (Joann); brother-in-law of Patricia (the late James) Diulus and Frank (Janelle) Diulus; son-in-law of the late Peter "Woodsie" and Grace DiPerna Diulus. Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Pacific Theater. He was a very active member of St. Gabriel Parish, Whitehall where he was an usher for over 60 years. Ray worked for Whitehall Boro for 35 years, retiring as supervisor. Visitation will be held privately at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church on Monday, January 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held privately.

    Ray was kind, kind, kind, and had wonderful stories. We were always glad to see him and he made Azalea a great street. One time we admired his marigolds.     I will miss my talks with "Mayor Ray of Azalea" that we had every time he'd drive by and see me outside. From the day we moved into the neighborhood, he took interest in my family and our lives and always remembered from one conversation to the next what my kids were up to. When I'd visit him at home, we could talk for hours, but it didn't happen as often as I'd thought about it. How he loved his Eat n Park soup! Keep looking after Azalea, Ray, and thank you for the history lessons and words of wisdom. My sympathy to his family.
