Obituary For Read R. Allen

September 6, 1927 - November 15, 2016 Allen, Read R. Age 89, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, of Baldwin Borough. Beloved husband of 67 years of June Allen; father of Richard (Janis) Allen of Evergreen, CO, Shirley (David) Lutz of Finleyville, Rebecca Laur of Carrick and Barry (Kristy) Allen of Baldwin; grandfather of Rainee, Jason, William, Nicholas, Jonathan and the late Sara; great-grandfather of 12. Son of Delbert and Sarah. Brother of Don (Norma), Lily (Arnold) Michler, Merle (Jackie), Lois (Howard) Thorhauer - all deceased - and surviving sisters Faye Kramer (William deceased) and Betty (Jim) Sekely, Read was a U.S. Army Veteran and a charter member of Hamilton Presbyterian Church where he was active on various church committees. He did home delivery for Sealtest Dairy in Castle Shannon, was a console operator at Mellon Bank, and a grounds crew member at Three Rivers Stadium. Read was a genuinely kind and friendly man who touched the lives of everyone he met. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in Hamilton Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to SIDS Alliance, Western Pennsylvania Affiliate, 2000 Mary Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203.

    I'm so sorry for the passing of Uncle Read. As it very aptly reads above, he was "a genuinely kind and friendly man who touched the lives of everyone he met." I cherish the memories of his generosity, thoughtfulness, and kind spirit. My deepest condolences.

    Mrs. Allen, Rich and all Allen family members, I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Allen. He was a close and trusted friend of my parents for many years. He will be dearly missed.
