Obituary For Regis J. Zern

February 2, 1931- August 25, 2014

Zern, Regis J., age 83, of Whitehall (formerly of Brentwood) passed peacefully to eternity on Monday, August 25, 2014. Beloved husband and best friend to Clara C. (Szczepankowski). They shared a deep abiding love and were looking forward to celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary on October 16, 2014. He was a devout Catholic, Naval Korean War Veteran, employed by Triangle News for 45 years and the proud owner of Zern's News in Wilkinsburg for 20 years. He was a dedicated loving father of David J. (Krys) Zern of Johnstown, PA, James A. (Beverly) Zern of Whitehall, Kenneth P. Zern of Robinson Township and the late Thomas J. Zern; loving grandfather of Matthew (Andrea) Zern, Stephanie Zern, Nicole "Nikki" Zern, Emily K. Zern, and Adria C. Zern; great-grandfather of Lillyonna Newcomer; loving brother of Patricia Gaetano, Theodore R. (Roxanne) Zern, Karen Schultz, and Mary (Howard) Bittner; brother-in-law of Henry (Jackie) Stevens and John (Therese) Lukus. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, T. Regis and Ethel (Euler) Zern and his sisters, Rosemary Zern, Elaine (Carson), baby brother, Richard and brother-in-law, Ted Gaetano; sisters-in-law Joan Lukus, Bernadette (Rudy) and Eleanor Szczepankowski; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Eleanor Szczepankowski. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Thursday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Wendelin Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to St. Wendelin Church, 2728 Custer Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15227.
