Obituary For Richard Charles Sweeney

March 13, 1928 - October 28, 2017

Sweeney, Richard Charles Age 89, on Saturday, October 28, 2017, of Bethel Park, formerly of Baldwin Borough.

Husband of Elizabeth (Levis) Sweeney and the late Jeanne (Schmotzer) Sweeney; father of Lawrence (Andrea) Sweeney of Bethel Park; grandfather of Christopher (Carla) Sweeney and Dr. Kaitlyn Sweeney; great-grandfather of Cole and Natalie Sweeney; stepfather of William (Karen), James (Katie) Levis, Patricia (Jim) Collopy, Daniel (Sue), Richard (Nicole) Levis and the late Carol (survived by Paul) Tirella; step-grandfather of 17 and step-great-grandfather of 11; son of the late Charles J. and Laureda (Phelan) Sweeney; brother of the late Patricia (Daniel) Bradley; brother-in-law of Nancy (the late Elmer) Mantsch, Dave (Mary) Schmotzer and Peggy (Larry) Gibbons. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Richard was a retired Field Representative with Donegal Insurance Company and was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Albert the Great Parish where for many years he served in several other volunteer capacities. Richard's family would like to thank the Nurses, Aides and the staff of Paramount Bethel Park along with supportive family and friends. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. where a funeral prayer will be held on Thursday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial to follow in St. Germaine Church at 10:00 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to your local St. Vincent dePaul Society or the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, 1 North Linden Street, Duquesne, PA 15110.

    Enjoyed all the years growing up together. Dick was outnumbered by all the girls but he managed it with good humor. We were all family.
