Age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 after an extended illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; 10 children; their spouses; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard was known for great agility and strength balanced with exceeding gentleness as exemplified by comforting young ones as a volunteer at Children's Hospital. He will also be remembered for his innate artistic abilities in both sculpting and "tickling the ivories" at the many social events he and Barbara hosted. Richard was an avid handball player and enjoyed sharing his quirky humor with everyone who knew him. He and his wife traveled the world as members of the International Executive Service Corp. He served in the United States Army and retired from General Electric after many years of devoted service. Due to the public health advisory, visitation and funeral services were held privately. Arrangements by John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would ask you consider making a donation in his name to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, 4401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
