Obituary For Richard T. Zimmer

Zimmer, Richard T., age 92, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 23, 2022, of Whitehall. Beloved husband of the late Joan (Spallone) Zimmer; son of the late Casper C. and Helen (Schultz) Zimmer; brother of Thomas (Ruth) Zimmer, Joan (the late John) Beck and the late Catherine (Stanley) Kaminski and Casper (Patricia) Zimmer. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was a Sergeant in the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict and a longtime employee of the City of Pittsburgh Parking Authority. Richard was loved by many and will surely be missed by all who knew him. There will be no visitation and services will be held privately. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. If desired, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.

    Richard and I became friends following the death of his brother and my neighbor, Casper. He was always so upbeat and happy, it rubbed off on me. I found it hard to believe he was pedaling the streets on his electric bicycle in spite of his poor vision. What spirit! He was a forever young 90+ year old. I'm so, so sorry he had to suffer following a simple cataract operation. Should not have happened! Richard, I know God now holds you lovingly in the palms of His hands. Thanks for the memories.
