Obituary For Rita C. Rinaldo

November 7, 1959 - January 7, 2019

Rinaldo, Rita C. (Barry), age 59, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Rita had a great spirit, charm and wit, with a smile that could light up the world. She had a passion for travel, visiting as many places as possible, from Ireland to Uruguay to Portugal and many spots in between. Remarkably self-sufficient and resilient, she also knew how to have fun. Never willing to miss an adventure, her life was full of all sorts of fabulous experiences, from things like walking the red carpet at the Academy Awards to singing Beatles or Disney songs on the beach and challenging her siblings to late night card games. Above all, Rita was devoted to her family. Loving and proud mother of Kaitlin C. Rinaldo and Robert F. Rinaldo; stepmother of Laura (Jacob) Holzscheiter; grandmother of Helen F. Holzscheiter; daughter of the late Honorable Judge Francis A., Jr. and Ruth (Goddard) Barry; beloved sister of Margaret (Allan Byrne) Barry, Timothy (Diane) Barry, Thomas (Tess) Barry, Sheila (Gary Lipp) Barry, Francis (Beth) Barry, Patrick (Diane) Barry and Eileen (Michael) Andreola. She is also survived by a large extended family including several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, 209 4th Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or Our Clubhouse, 2816 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

Condolences

Dear Barry and Rinaldo Family, I was so sorry to hear about Rita. Whenever I hear the song "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf, I always think of Rita and me practicing our dance routine while taking a break from playing with Barbie's. (she always had the coolest barbie dresses). I will always have these fond memories. I am so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I only knew Rita through a few precious summers on Cape Cod when the kids made friends and we all hung out. I called it my halcyon days when things seemed perfectly in sync. She was warm and fun and I am so sad to see her bright light snuffed out so soon. Love to Katie and Robbie. We had some very sweet times together.
