Obituary For Rita J. Strauss

January 4, 1925 - November 1, 2016

Strauss, Rita J. (McCarthy) Age 91, on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, of Whitehall.

Wife of the late Charles F. Strauss; mother of Thomas (Susan), Regis (Nancy) Strauss and the late Ruthann (survived by Michael) Ryan and Charles A. (survived by Karen Lewis) Strauss; sister of Ted (Peg) McCarthy and Peggy (the late Paul) Leslie; also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Rita spent many years as a member of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church Choir and spent her free time in a number of bowling leagues, card clubs, and golfing. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Saturday from 9:00 until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel of The Sorrowful Virgin Church at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Alzheimers.org or Summa Health Hospice Foundation-51140, P.O.Box 2090, Akron, OH 44398-6153.

    Rita was an inspiration to many people. Faithful, and frugal, she was an amazing mother and friend. Her rye wit will remain unmatched. She kept us in stitches regaling us with stories and just chiming in with the funniest retorts. An Irish lass she was, and an Irish lass she will always be. We love you, Rita, and miss you already. Here's to you, beautiful lady!
