Obituary For Robert H. Jones

Robert H. Jones Obituary Robert H. Jones was born November 6, 1937, in Cumberland, MD., and passed on October 4, 2022, in Bethel Park, PA.

Robert was preceded in death by parents Harmon and Mary Jones, daughter Sherry Ann Jones, and sister Eleanor Wahl. He is survived by sons Jeffrey Robert Jones and Gregory Robert Jones (Sharon Riggs, children Matt Riggs, and Marisa Riggs), daughter Julie Ann Jones, and Ann Miller Jones (former wife and friend), as well as nieces and nephews Marynel Wahl, Edward Wahl, Shawn Miller, Amy Froats, Mary Singer, and Andrew Miller, and godchildren Bruno Costa and Leah Cervenak.

Bob Jones had a thirst for knowledge, a sense of adventure, and an overall curiosity that generated a “perpetual bucket list” for him - never on paper, always in his mind.

After a lifelong career with U.S. Steel, birding replaced Bob’s drive for career success; daily he could be found behind a pair of binoculars searching for yet another illusive species. While a stroke in 2014 squelched his ability to swing a golf club, he had been an avid golfer all of his life and a diehard member of the Bobby Jones Open Golf Tournament. He loved scuba diving, learned to fly a glider plane, jumped out of an airplane, and could play a viciously competitive game of racketball or bridge.

Bob very much loved family including extended family. One of the great outcomes of his days at U.S. Steel was meeting Roberto and Teresa Costa. He delighted in watching their family form and grow, and enjoyed great adventures with them in a multitude of countries.

The final unspoken item on any bucket list is a peaceful passing. On October 4th Bob checked that final item off his list.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10 am until the time of the service at noon. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, Bob would appreciate donations to the Sarasota Audubon Society - donations may be made at: or mailed to Sarasota Audubon Nature Center, 999 Center Rd., Sarasota, FL 34240.

My heart goes out to all of you!! I was deeply saddened to hear of Bob's passing. My husband and I met Bob a few years ago in the 19th Hole at Heritage Oaks and instantly became friends!!! I began to help him with his technological challenges with that mobile phone of his. We shared a great many laughs. He always seemed to be laughing when my husband and he talked. There were times I would have him meet us for dinner or just a drink. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated his company. I will miss you and your laugh Bob!!!! Vangie and Steve Jones

Our thoughts and prayers to Bobby's family. We met Bobby at Heritage Oak Sarasota. I'm sure everyone would agree he was amazing guy who loved a good conversation, golf and being with others. We are blessed for having known him. May he Rest In Peace. An Irish Poem "Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the end of the day." With deepest sympathy Ian and Rita MacLure

For us Bob is still and will be among us. Just a well deserved rest. During the last 34 years Bob has had a super active participation in our family living in several moments, in different parts of the world in a collective or individual way with each member of our family. There are countless occasions that we shared good and bad moments but always with a positive vision in several phases of our lives. For us Bob has not left and will never leave.
