Obituary For Robert Joseph Bittner

Age 93, on Thursday, December 17, 2020, of Baldwin, formerly of South Side. Son of the late Harry and Pauline (Sedley) Bittner, Robert was lovingly known as "Bob" and "Pinky". Bob is the beloved husband of 59 years to the love of his life, Ellie; loving father of Bob Bittner, Linda (Eric) Miller, Lisa Bittner-McAleavey and the late Kenneth May; proud grandfather of Staci (Manny), Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Lesley and Natalie; Bob is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings and many loved ones. Bob served in the 7th Calvary 1st Division of the US Army during WWII and also played clarinet in the military band. He was a well-respected police officer, having served throughout the Pittsburgh area for 29 years. A devout Catholic, Bob had been an active parishioner of St. Michael Church, then St. Sylvester Church. His past times included completing crossword puzzles, playing cards at family events and watching western movies. He was a lover of animals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Friends and family describe Bob as a loving, easy going, family-oriented man. He always made people laugh, finding joy in telling jokes and offering Wrigley's Doublemint gum to everyone he encountered. Due to pandemic restrictions, his visitation and funeral mass will be private. Arrangements handled by the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. If desired, family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice in Bob's honor.
