Age 73, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, formerly of Penn Hills. Beloved husband of 35 years to Stephanie Cassidy; father of Robert, Scott (Laura) and Brett Cassidy; stepfather of Shelley (Chris) Brough, Michael (Lesley) Winfield and Jeffrey (Tammy) Winfield; grandfather of Gabriel, Ashley, Emily, Samantha, Nicole and Lizzy; son of the late Robert and Helen Cassidy; brother and friend of Kathy (Frank) DiLeo, Joe Cassidy and the late Margie (survived by Bob Peacock) Kratt, Dennis (survived by Mary) Cassidy and Wayne Cassidy. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an Army Military Police Officer attached to the Navy Seals. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #351 Penn Hills. Butch worked for 37 years for Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA). He enjoyed fishing with his brothers and best friend Bob and loved St. Patrick's Day. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Monday, March 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m until noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m. A blessing service and full military honors will be held at 3:30 p.m. Due to the current health crisis, masks and social distancing guidelines must be adhered to. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 112 Washington Place (2 Chatham Center), Suite 1520, Pittsburgh, PA, PA 15219. August 17, 2021 I'm so sorry for your loss Stephanie. I have such great memories working with Bob in the International Department at MSA. He was always so kind to everyone. He will be missed by many.
