Obituary For Robert Thomas Matey
Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1940, to the late Mary E. and Michael F. Matey, Bob brought warmth, intelligence, and an unforgettable love of life to all of those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bob graduated from McKeesport High School and went on to attend Robert Morris University. Bob always had a sharp mind for numbers and passed the CPA Exam in 1964. Bob spent his respected career as a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, and the Ohio Society of CPAs. Bob dedicated 29 years in the finance department of Alcoa where he focused heavily on international projects. Bob traveled the world through his career going from Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, and Japan. Each stop along the way he developed his passion for great food and better stories. Stories he would go on to share for the rest of his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bob believed deeply in giving back. Over the years, he generously lent his time as a volunteer for SHIM, Family Hospice, and Jefferson Hospital and most recently, he found great purpose serving his community at the Cloverfield Area Food Pantry. He was also a faithful, long-time member of Good Sheppard Lutheran Church.
Bob had a lifelong passion for golf and great food. Bob golfed several times a week and took great joy in teaching all of his grandsons the joys and lessons of golf. Bob’s love of golf was only overshadowed by his love of food. Bob was always on the lookout for his next great meal and would often talk about that meal for weeks.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Judith Lynn Matey (Harrison), and his brothers Michael and John Matey.
His legacy of love lives on through his devoted wife of 32 years, Sharon E. Matey (Green); his step children, Mary Frances Moog (Michael), Thomas W. Green III (Jeannene), and Sharon Martin (Thomas).
He was the proudest Pappy to his seven grandchildren Jackie Perri (Art), Shane Green (Marissa), Andrew Moog (Alexis), Nicholas Green, Shawn Martin, Jacob Green (Libby), and Melissa Martin (Ryan) and two great grandchildren, Bodie and Piper. He would speak to anyone that would listen of his great joy of watching his grandchildren become the people they are today and brag about each of their achievements.
Friends and family will be received at John F.
