Obituary For Rocco Richard Jannetti

Age 80, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, of Baldwin Borough.

Jannetti, Rocco Richard, age 80, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, of Baldwin Borough.

Husband of Margaret “Peggy” Jannetti; father of JoAnn Hebert of Munhall; grandfather of Julie (Kevin) Hebert of North Hills; brother-in-law of Bette (Skeets) Lewandowski; uncle of Stacey (Gene) Salvio; great-uncle to Giavonna and Nico Salvio; cousin to Joe (Marlene) Pizzuti and family; uncle to J.D. (Carla) D’alessandro and family; cousin to Ronnie (Patty) Jones and family. Also survived by other family and friends. Including one of his oldest and dearest friends Billy Mahoney and his family.

He was a Jack-of-all-Trades. He was in the Army and made glasses, he was a beautician for a year, a crane operator at J&N Steel, and an operating engineer and laborer for plumbing companies until he retired. He also was a mechanic.

Since he could not sit still in retirement, he became a Penn Hills Bus driver, a beloved Mount Lebanon crossing guard, a PPG Paints Arena usher, ticket-taker, and greeter. In his lifetime he loved to make people happy. He especially loved to make children smile with his magic tricks, dressing up as Santa, and as a crossing guard he always had sweet treats to hand out.

After his wife and family, his next love was making delicious food. Everybody loved “Rocco’s famous Chocolate Covered Strawberries”. He made Hungarian Palacsinta’s with the most inventive fillings. Including his granddaughters favorite of ice cream sandwiches with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. When his family was over for breakfast, they could not wait for his Specialty French Toast, complete with secret ingredients. For a non-drinker, he loved making Lemoncello for his family and friends to enjoy. He loved making new food creations and getting other people to taste and enjoy them.

He lived a long and happy life with his three favorite girls by his side. His wife Peggy, his daughter JoAnn, and his granddaughter Julie loved him more than words can describe and just like one of his favorite movies “It was a Wonderful Life”. Due to the current public health crisis, masks and social distancing guidelines must be adhered to. Limited visitation will be held at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15227, 412-881-4100 on Friday, January 15, 2020 from 2-7 p.m.. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel. If desired, family suggests contributions to Humane Animal Rescue, 1101 Western Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233 or Wounded Warrior Project, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant Street, Attn: Donor Services, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

Mrs. Janetti. I am sorry to hear of the passing of Rocco. I met Rocco through our mutual friendship with Harry Orlando. When I reached out to him, since we had not talked in a few years, it was the day he fell and I spoke to you when you answered his phone in the hospital waiting area. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. My deepest sympathies to you all.

Well, Rocco sure"dropped a bomb on us". I will always remember him as friendly, funny, and cool. He showed cool when you guys danced together. He showed funny by the bomb whistle, when we all danced together. Friendly? Look at that smile! He made us all happier.

Peggy, Joanne, and family - I had the pleasure of having Rocco's Strawberries and a beautiful pin that I still wear that was part of his family - my heart breaks for all of you - He was truly a "Great Soul" "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." – Maya Angelou
