Rodger P. Hoye, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on August 29, 2026. Born on September 23, 1951, in Pittsburgh, PA, Rodger was a man of great integrity and warmth whose life was defined by dedication to his family.

The son of the late Ola Mae Young and William Russell Hoye, Rodger's early life in Pittsburgh was filled with rich family values instilled by his parents. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother William Russell Hoye, Jr., his sisters Ruby Jean Walker and Marsha Hoye, his beloved wife Deborah Hoye, grandsons Jaden and Elijah Hoye, and his cherished daughter-in-love Bobbie Lynn Hoye.

Rodger's journey with his soulmate, Deborah Allen, began on November 20, 1971. Their marriage was a beautiful union, which bore four children, who were Rodger's pride and joy: Aaron (Aretha) Hoye, Rodger (the late Bobbie) Hoye, Heatherlynne Hoye, and Vanessa Hoye. He was the proud grandfather of Ashante, Andre, Aden, Noah, Riley, Omari, Arin and the late Jaden and Elijah, great grandfather of Hendrixx and Artemi, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

For 40 years, from 1977, Rodger was a dedicated employee of Duquesne University, where he worked with diligence and retired in 2017. Known for his strong work ethic and commitment, he left a lasting impression on his colleagues and any passersby’s on campus.

Rodger was a man of gentle spirit. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, relaxing while watching classic television shows, listening to music on one of his many portable radios, and spending time playing pool and fishing with friends. Despite an exterior that might have seemed intimidating, Rodger was a gentle giant at heart, known for his kindness, respect, and the warmth he extended to everyone he met.

His family and friends remember him as a man who stood tall, both in stature and in character, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, respect, and cherished memories.

His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who knew and loved him.
