Age 88, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, February 19, 2023 of Baldwin.

Husband to the love of his life, Helen M. Kratt "Chookey", for 68 years before her passing in May of 2021. Loving father of Ron (Laura) Jones Jr. and Diane (the late Robin) Ruchka; grandfather of Sarah (Dan) Bowman, Christopher (Jess) Jones, Justin (April) Ruchka, and the late Jarrett Ruchka; great-grandfather of six; son of the late William and Margaret (Davis) Jones. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

With only a sixth grade education and after many jobs and many positions at J&L Steel, Ron retired from J&L after 25 years as Supervisor of the Bullgang in the Blooming Mill Department. Ron restarted the family business, Baldwin Asphalt Paving, Inc. in 1972. During those years Ron was a leader, mentor, and respected member of the construction and business community in Pittsburgh and beyond. He retired in 2018 and was a volunteer firefighter for Baldwin Independent Fire Co. #1 for many years.

Running Baldwin Asphalt and being with his family and friends at their cottage on Deep Creek Lake was his lifelong passion. Ron and Chookey were very generous and shared the cottage and all their toys, always happy to host many parties. Ron greatly enjoyed water sports, golfing, snowmobiling, entertaining and driving his golf cart between the cottage and the lake and his many friends.

Ron had a vibrant personality whose generous heart created many life-long friends across all ages. While Ron will be deeply missed by all, he lived his life to the fullest and has filled our lives with countless memories. He was a man of many talents who loved his family.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral prayer at 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
