Obituary For Sandra L. "Sandy" (Thornton) Morgan

Age 82, of Castle Shannon, PA passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, after a long illness.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert; her children, Robert, Jr., Charles, George (Cindy), Mary Jane (Charlie) Slaughter and Rodger (Aimee); her grandchildren, Amber (Chris), Korie (Miranda), Tori (Eddie) and Billy (Ashley); and her great-grandchildren, Cayden, Chayse, Kalon and Kayleigh; sister of George "Pete" (the late June) Thornton and John "Jack" (Sue) Thornton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Raising five children presented many challenges, but Sandy met them all with determination, prayer and a whole lot of love. She was always there to help friends and family whenever or wherever needed. Whether it be hanging drywall, rebuilding a wall, babysitting, organizing a neighborhood picnic or providing a shoulder to lean on, she was there. After raising her children, Sandy began her second career as a secretary for W.G. Tomko and Son, with whom she retired. After retiring, she spent her time at her cottage on Youghiogheny Lake. Part of her days were spent going for boat rides and visiting with neighbors on the dock. In the early mornings she could be found sitting on the deck with her dog Coco, looking out over the lake, with her crossword puzzles and a cup of tea at her side. An especially great joy of hers was spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doing crafts, baking cookies, reading storybooks and later Scrabble games created warm memories with her family. Her smile, gentle nature and kind heart will be missed. Her family could not have asked for a better Wife, Mom, Gram and Great-Gram. God only provides the best. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood 15227, Monday, June 5, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., where a Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

I have known Sandy since I was ten years old. She lived across the street from me. We were like sisters growing up. I have so many wonderful memories of all the things we did together. Teenage years, Dating, Marriage, Children, etc.. Through the years she was my helper, a shoulder to lean on, there when I needed her, my baby sitter when I became a single mom, her heart and her home were always open to me. I have had many friends in my life, but none like her! God calls his children to be like Jesus. To serve, to help those in need, to share and love one another. Sandy did just that. On June 2nd, 2023 Heaven rejoiced when they received a VERY SPECIAL ANGEL! I will miss her.

I never got the chance to meet you but was able to learn about you through Korie. It's never easy to say good bye for the family and friends but rest assured my family will be there for Korie.and Miranda. Now you're with our god and savior. Your pain is gone and god called a special angel home. RIP and I look forward to meeting you when God calls me home. Jay Jones
