Urban, Sister Joan of Arc, OSF

Sister Joan of Arc Urban, a Sister of St. Francis of the Providence of God for 86 years, died at the age of 101 on March 4, 2018. Born April 11, 1916, she is survived by her sister-in-law Kathryn Urban, nieces and nephews. Sister Joan of Arc taught elementary education for 40 years with nine years at St. Valentine School. She also catechized for 15 years in New York and Connecticut. After 22 years as motherhouse receptionist and postal clerk, Sister Joan of Arc began her ministry of prayer at age 95. Friends will be received at John Slater Funeral Home, 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd, Pittsburgh PA 15227 on Friday, March 9, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., wake service at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on March 10, 10:00 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church, 5811 Curry Rd., Pittsburgh PA 15236. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God, 3757 Library Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15234.

    Sister Joan of Arc was my 7th & 8th grade teacher at St. Peter School in Kenosha, WI. I remember her as one of my finest teachers. I saw her years later when my husband & I attended Sr. Kathleenâ??s 50th Jubilee celebration. What an example of a life well-lived! Rest in peace, Sr. Joan of Arc. The angels must be smiling!

    Sorry to hear of her passing. She was a good influence on me at St. Val's and I'm a better person for having known her. Prayers to you Sr. Joan, thank you for everything, and hopefully my grammar here is passing.
