April 3, 1942 - December 11, 2018Garas, Sister M. Michele, OSF Sister M. Michele Garas, a Sister of St. Francis of the Providence of God for 55 years died on December 11, 2018. Born April 3, 1942 in Utena, Lithuania, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Rita Sakkab. Sister Michele is survived by her brothers Stanley (Nadia) Garas, Jonas (Sandra) Garliauskas, sisters Regina (Richard) Goebel, Lucija Garliauskas, and nieces and nephews. After educating primary children for 22 years, Sister Michele was missioned to Lithuanian in 1992 where she served as teacher and pastoral minister for the next nineteen years. Health needs caused her to return to Pittsburgh where she ministered as receptionist and sacristan at the motherhouse prior to beginning a Ministry of Prayer and Presence in 2014 at Presbyterian SeniorCare, Oakmont. Friends will be received at John Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Rd, Pittsburgh PA 15227, Friday, December 14, 4:00-8:00 PM, Wake Service, 6:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, December 15, 10:00 AM, St. Germaine Church, 7003 Baptist Rd. Bethel Park, PA 15102.
