Age 64, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, of Bethel Park, PA, formerly of East Greenbush, NY. Beloved wife of Tim Fox; devoted mom of Evan (Emily Hollis) and Adam Fox; daughter of the late John and Linda Craven; sister of Stephen (Estelle) Craven and the late Jann (survived by Tom) Leonard. Also survived by cousins Lynn Momrow-Zielinski and John Purtell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sue’s avid love of books and education came from her school principal father. With a B.S. in Elementary Education (Russell Sage College) and M.S. in Political Science (University of Buffalo), she started her public service career in the Mario Cuomo era, working on legislation in the NY State Senate Minority Program Office and at other agencies such as the NY Department of Transportation. She found her true passion after completing Library Science degrees at the University of New Orleans and the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as an elementary and high school librarian for over 15 years in the Washington, PA city school district, where she impacted many young lives by nurturing their interest in books and teaching them how to do research. She was always talking about going back to school, looking to learn more. Sue loved music, singing in Rock Voices and many church choirs over the years. She started as a new wave girl, following The Talking Heads, The Clash, World Party, Squeeze, etc. and later transitioning to alternative artists. She was a devoted parrothead and enjoyed many other genres. Art and culture were also key parts of her life; it was a must to renew the family membership with the Carnegie Museums each year. That was just a small portion of the wonderful things she did for her children while raising them. Sue took great joy in planning family trips, often joking she should have been a travel agent. Most included a nature element; hiking/geocaching/bird watching in various parks and wildlife refuges. Her love of the ocean started with childhood trips to Cape Cod and was bolstered by visits to Chincoteague in later years. A favorite family event for many years was going to Hershey for the PA librarians conference. While Mom attended sessions, Tim, Evan and Adam would enjoy Hershey Lodge, Chocolate World, etc. Sue did not adhere to social norms; she was her own person. She was a passionate, strong and intelligent woman. Her wry sense of humor helped to carry all of us through good times and bad. She always greeted everyone with a radiant smile and an offer of assistance. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Sue’s name to the Arbor Day Foundation or book programs such as Reading is Fundamental / Reading Ready Pittsburgh. A funeral service will be held at St David’s Episcopal Church (McMurray, PA) at 10:30 am Saturday October 10. Arrangements were handled privately through John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. Contact Us to have your link and message added here. Please fill out the form below.
