Obituary For Thomas L. Rush

Age 86, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, of Whitehall.

Beloved husband of the late Barbara L. (Geis) and Carol (Pancoast); loving father of Gary (Stacy) Rush and Amy (Michael) Hogle; cherished grandfather of Zackary, Rylie, Abigail and Landon; brother of the late Walter H., Jr., Frank and Laura Fitzhenry. Also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a retired Pittsburgh Police Officer of Zone 3, he served the City of Pittsburgh for over 28 years (1966-1994). He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Fort Pitt Lodge #1. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral prayers on Saturday morning at 9:45. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Albert the Great Church at 10:30 a.m.

    My mother and I were very blessed to have Tom as our next door neighbor here at the Canongate Apartments I always enjoyed his company. A true gentleman and a heck of a nice guy. I will miss you Tom.

    From the moment I met Tom, I knew he was a gem and one of the kindest people I had ever met. He always greeted me with a smile and there was such a look of pride in his eyes for his family he loved so much. He would light up when Z and Abby were out on the dek or just hanging around with friends. He was a good man and will be greatly missed.

    I HAD THE HONOR OF WORKING WITH BROTHER TOM RUSH OUT OF THE PGH. POLICE, OLD NUMBER 07 STATION, (NOW ZONE 03)... BACK IN THE LATE 60'S. HE WAS A DEDICATED OFFICER AND AND ALWAYS HAD A BROTHER OFFICERS BACK. WHEN THE CITY HAD RELOCATED THE PGH. POLICE PARK DIV. AND SOME TRAFFIC DIV. UNITS TO NUMBER 07 STATION, ... TOM TOOK GOOD CARE IN TRAINING US FOR OUR NEW DISTRICT. HE WILL SURELY BE MISSED BY ME AND MANY OFFICERS AT THAT TIME. MY SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY, AND MAY THEY HAVE THE STRENGTH TO GET THROUGH THIS TRYING TIME REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER, I WILL MISS YOU AND YOUR PAST FRIENDSHIP. MAY GOD BLESS HIS BELOVED FAMILY.
