Obituary For Thomas "Tom" Bailey

Age 63, of Bethel Park, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025. He lived a life full of family, friends, adventures, and sweet treats!

Being the youngest of eight siblings wasn’t easy, but it created fond memories that Tom enjoyed sharing. In college, he worked hard on and off the track and made lifelong friends along the way (yes, he still would get together with his college buddies to go to Pitt football games and their children’s weddings.)

Tom humbly started his career at Brentwood Bank shoveling snow on a cold January day and recently celebrated his 40th anniversary at the bank as CEO (a position he held for 24 years). He enjoyed being a community banker - he loved what he did and was proud to serve his community and fellow bankers. He met so many truly amazing people along the way.

Tom was a kind and caring man who valued hard work and instilled a strong work ethic in his kids. He valued his faith, and the time he got to spend daily in prayer with his wife, Lill.

Tom’s greatest joy though was spending time with his family. He took such good care of his family and loved creating new memories. Whether it was kayaking in Glacier Bay with his son, Thomas, seeing Polar Bears and Northern Lights with his daughter, Mary Jo, or his National Park Adventures with his wife, Lill, he was excited to go on a grand adventure with them. He was blessed to have so many memories with them!

Tom celebrated life to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a Bethel Bakery Pączki, a Page’s Dairy Mart Artic swirl, or Lill’s cherry squares. Say a prayer for him and enjoy a delicious goodie to honor his life!

Tom was the son of the late Dr. William R. Bailey, Jr. and Dr. Mary Lynch Bailey and brother to the late Margaret (Richard) Herrle. In addition to his wife, Lill, daughter, Mary Jo and son, Thomas, Tom is survived by his brothers, Bill (Barbara) and Jim and his sisters, Mary, Patricia (Mike) Ward, Kathleen (Kevin) Varley, and Eleanor.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 1-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:00. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Valentine Church, 2710 Ohio Street, Bethel Park 15102 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Appalachia Work Camp at 348 Allandale Drive, Bethel Park, PA 15102.

Tom, you will be greatly missed. He was one of the kindest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing and working with. I will always remember our time talking "shop" but by far my favorite things to share with Tom was our love of the West and wildlife especially Yellowstone. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the Brentwood Bank family and especially with Lill, Mary Jo, and Thomas.

My deepest sympathies to all the Bailey's. There are so many memories - but I will share one. Our families grew up side by side and Tom was the closest to my age. We used to go to Brentwood pool everyday in the summer. J.M. As soon as the pool opened each year, we started "practicing" for the 4th of July swimming races. We asked the lifeguards how many times across the side it was to do a mile and one of them told us it was 88 back and forth's width-wise. So, we would swim back and forth 88 times every day. Every year and like the rest of his family, Tommy would clean up in the free style and the backstroke. He had so many trophies. So, even back then he was a dedicated and successful athlete. Unfortunately, I never collected one trophy. I was so jealous. We entrust Tom to the Good Lord in faith. I appreciate his friendship and all the memories.

May Tom Rest In Peace In The Palm Of God's Hand. Deepest Sympathies to Lill and his family and friends. Tom was truly a class act and I happy to have fond memories of our discussions - not only regarding business, but of our faith and families.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Bailey. I worked at Brentwood Bank for 4 years and he was always such a kind and thoughtful man. He made all of his employees feel special with a personal birthday and anniversary card he hand delivered making you feel valued and appreciated. I'm sharing in your families sadness and sending prayers.

Tom was more than just the CEO, he was such a good man, who showed daily how much he cared about everyone that worked at Brentwood Bank, always saying happy birthday, sending anniversary cards, it was a privilege working with him for 3 years. I will miss our chats about fast cars Tom, sorry I got a Camaro ( I know you hated it) Prayers and hugs to the Bailey family!!

So sorry to hear of Mr Baileys passing. I don't know him personally but he's seemed like a very kind man. My son works at Brentwood Bank and Tom always had something positive to say remembering his birthday and even a hand written 3 year anniversary card. To me that says a lot about a persons character. May he rest in the arms of God! Prayers and hugs to his entire family, may God give you peace and strength during this difficult time. Claudette Holik

I didn't know Tom very well, but knew of his devotion to his faith and his wife, Lillian, from his daily 7:00 mass attendance at St. Louise De Marillac. He was always very friendly and treated Lillian with great kindnesses, as he did other mass attendees. I am so very sorry to learn of his passing. My sympathy and prayers to Lillian and his whole family. 7:00 am mass attendee, Linda James

Tom, I'll always remember our first encounter walking into the admin building on my first day at Brentwood last spring when I entered the doors, and he thought I was a maintenance worker since I was unable to get to the main desk hahaha. Welcomed and introduced with open arms and was excited to have me join this wonderful organization. In addition, when visiting the branches several times hearing about all the local places he enjoyed getting lunch at with his friends & family. Condolences to you & your amazing family you have nurtured your entire life. Tom is someone special to look up to in living a wholesome and vibrant life.

To the Bailey family. You have my very deepest sympathy. Mr. Bailey was more than the president/CEO of Brentwood. He was the kindest and compassionate man and it was a privilege to work with him for 6 years! He will be missed but remembered as such.
