Obituary For Thomas Unger

Age 62, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, in Baldwin, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the beloved husband of Terry (Cuppett) Unger; proud father of Melissa Unger and Matthew (Breanne) Unger; and loving Grandpa to Brayden and Tanner Unger. Tom was the son of the late Richard and Gertrude Unger; brother of Christina (the late John) Fair, Barb (Bob) Brunner, Richard (Audrey) Unger, and Patty (Chris) Bane; and son-in-law of Madeline and the late Thomas Cuppett. He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog, Pauley, who brought him constant joy and comfort.

Tom was a man of creativity, kindness, and strength. He always carried a Matchbox car in his pocket for his grandsons, and he treasured weekly coffee shop visits with his children and day trips to Ligonier. He knew all the best spots for pizza and cheese sticks. Gifted with the ability to fix almost anything, Tom approached every task with care and a desire to make life better for others. He was deeply involved in his children’s activities, including YMCA Princesses and youth baseball, and he took great pride in his work. His dedication played a key role in building and improving South Hills Catholic Academy. Through every challenge, Tom refused to let cancer define him.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, 15227, on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 2–8 p.m. A funeral prayer service will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Winifred Church at 11:00 a.m.
