Obituary For Thomas W. Hunter, Jr.

Age 88, of Whitehall, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. Born August, 4, 1936.

Beloved husband of the late Carol Ann Messner; father of Thomas Hunter III, Alice Jacobs, and Kurt Hunter; step-father to Vicky Kittle, Terry Kearney and the late William Messner; proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Thomas was born in Meadville, PA where he grew up with his parents, the late Thomas W. Hunter Sr. and Esther Elizabeth Hunter along with his sister Christine Messersmith. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and continued his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He spent a brief time in the USMC for basic training during his senior year at college. After graduating he married Judith Lee Williams began his storied career working for US Steel starting off as a Laborer in the steel mills and progressing to Plant Superintendent at the Duquesne Plant. He retired in the position of General Manager of USX Engineering & Consulting (UEC) Division after 37 years of service to the corporation. He traveled much in the course of his employment and upon retirement he settled in The Villages, Florida with his second wife Carol. He enjoyed building and flying remote control model airplanes. He later returned to the Pittsburgh area where he loved singing in the choir at Christ United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his funeral service will be held in the funeral home Chapel at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Pennsylvania, Greater Pennsylvania Chapter 2835 E. Carson Street Pittsburgh, PA 15203.
