Obituary For Vernon J. McKavic

July 1, 1941 - March 12, 2018

McKavic, Vernon J. "Vern" Age 76, on Monday, March 12, 2018, of Bethel Park .

Son of the late John and Savilla (Lutz); brother of Neal and Monty McKavic and Rita (the late William) Wakefield; uncle of William, Jr., Colleen, Kelly and John (Gina) Wakefield. Vern loved to travel, visiting 49 states, and enjoyed Blues music. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, Wednesday, March 14, 2018, 4-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Thursday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Valentine Church at 10:00 am.

    Vern was a wonderful man and was loved by all who knew him. He will live on forever in our hearts. Heaven received a special angel.

    Vern and I were classmates and friends at Pitt. Vern was a loyal Panther sports fan. He visited me in NJ in the late 80's and we reminisced about our college days. Then he was in NJ again at a blues concert in the 90's and we met again. He was a great guy and I will miss his annual Christmas card with accounts of his travels. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Goodbye old friend.

    Vern filled a room. He was whip smart and a great musician. Was a member of Bethel High School Class of 1959. Loved a good time and class reunions. Successful in life and enjoying same. Those of us who knew him are enriched by having done so. World is less joyous without him.
