Virginia Sliwinski passed away on September 13, 2026, at the age of 94, with loved ones by her side.

Ginny's sweetness and unselfishness made her loved by all who became a part of her life. Her beautiful smile always lit up a room. She was the perfect example of someone who "never met a stranger". She welcomed and accepted everyone with big hugs and a compassionate heart. She loved her family, friends, and neighbors deeply. She will truly be missed by many.

She is preceded in death by her beloved and amazing husband, John, with whom she enjoyed traveling to casinos, going on day trip adventures, or just sitting on the front porch. She is also preceded in death by her parents Anna and Procip Orenish (Orynycz), her 12 brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Tylenda, who she cherished, and her son-in-law, Ben, who she loved and admired. She is also survived by her beloved and treasured grandsons, Brad Tylenda (Christa) and Matt Tylenda (Emma), who brought her so much joy watching them grow up and become the wonderful young men that they are now. Proud Gramma and Papa loved watching them play hockey and lacrosse and traveled far and wide to cheer them on. She adored Emma and Christa and was genuinely happy they all found each other. She is also survived by nieces who were like daughters to her, nephews, and great friends.

Ginny was a faithful fan of her Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers and Pirates and any team her grandsons played on. There was usually a hockey game, football game, baseball game or a tennis match on her television at all times.

She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds visit her feeder each day and she named them all! Ginny was an avid reader and her favorite books were always nearby. She wasn't able to read many books lately, so please take the time to read a good book in her honor!

There are many wonderful and kind nurses, aides, and staff at Paramount Senior Living in Peters Township. Thank you to all of those that helped Ginny... she made many friends in her short time there.

Thank you to the amazing, compassionate staff and her beautiful volunteer from Gallagher Hospice. Ginny referred to them as her Angels of Mercy and they truly were there for her. She loved each and every one of you. Please send any contributions to the Gallagher Foundation in Ginny's memory.

Arrangements were handled through the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227. At Ginny's request, there will be no visitation. Interment will be a private ceremony at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
