Obituary For Wayne D. Perella

Age 80, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021, formerly of Bon Air.

Son of the late Daniel and Dora Perella; brother of David (Debby) Perella and the late Diana (the late Virgil) Ricciardi and Denis (survived by Darlene) Perella. Also survived by nieces, nephews and their families, as well as other family members. Wayne will always be remembered most for his days as a guard at the Bethel Roller Rink. Even to this day when people would see him, they would ask, “Is that Wayne from Bethel Roller Rink?” His whole life, he had a warm smile on his face and a wave for you as he walked by or rode his red bicycle on the streets of Bon Air through Mt. Oliver and Carrick. Wayne was most generous volunteering his time at St. Canice annual festivals, as well as their bingo. He always had a helping hand for anyone who would ask. Wayne was often seen enjoying a ride on the Gateway Clipper, or yearly at Kennywood riding the rides and playing the games, always winning a stuffed animal to give to one of his nieces or nephews. He loved spending time with his extended family, especially holding the newborns. His favorite hobby was taking photographs of his family and friends and proudly showing them off. In Wayne’s younger years, he was seen on the milk truck delivering milk through the neighborhood. Later, he would work at Phipps Conservatory and then for the City of Pittsburgh Maintenance Department in Knoxville and then Brookline where he retired. Wayne will be sorely missed by many and was loved by all. The family would like to thank Heritage Manor Senior Living for being his second family. Thank you for the love and care you have extended over these many years to our Beloved Wayne. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Monday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Church at 10:00 a.m. Due to the current public health crisis, masks and social distancing guidelines must be adhered to. If desired, family suggests contributions to Heritage Manor, 4220 Clairton Boulevard, Pittsburgh PA 15227.

I was a boy at 259 Conniston in Bon Air when "Slim" the milkman and Wayne would visit almost daily to supply milk to us seven children. Slim and Wayne (Wayney) were a special pair. Wayne was just the sweetest young man who had a smaile for all. Wade Kirstein

Wayne worked with my dad on his milk truck. He spent many vacations with our family too. I was sorry to hear about his passing.

Wayne has been a social part of my life over the past 10 years. He loved going to the Hard Rock on Sunday mornings, going to Pizza Hut for the buffet on Wednesdays and the Pirate Games with the Heritage Manor gang every year. He truly loved life, food and fun! Wayne will hold a special place in my heart always and Heritage will not be the same without him.
