Almost 100! Born November 12, 1924 and entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, September 22, 2024. Husband of the late Claire M. (Bornscheuer) Cummings; beloved father of Jim, Bill (Annie), Robyn (the late Nick) Coxon, Gary (Lisa), Dennis (Theresa), Dave (Elizabeth) and the late Cynthia; son of the late Charles "Plumb" and Lorretta Cummings; brother of the late Chuck (Rita), Margaret (Thomas) Rennie, Thomas (Patricia) and Rose Marie (Rich) Becker. Bill was Grandfather to 13 wonderful grandchildren and Great-Grandfather to 7. Bill was a U.S. Navy Veteran attached to the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific during WWII. He was later called back to serve in the Korean Conflict. After service, he worked for the A&P warehouse for decades. He was an avid duck pin bowler and operated his own bowling lanes for 10 years. A music lover, he taught himself to play the piano in his 70's. Bill was an avid Pirate and Steelers fan and w ill be remembered for his incredible memory of Pirate games and World Series statistics. Friends will be received at the John F. Slater Funeral Home, Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227 on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral prayer on Saturday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Basil Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the charity of your choice or South Western Veteran Center, 7060 Highland Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
